Wixams is one of Bedfordshire’s newest villages, a planned community on the southern edge of Bedford with green spaces, lakes and play parks threaded between its neighbourhoods. Day-to-day amenities sit within the village, including local shops, schools and a community centre, with the full range of supermarkets, restaurants and leisure in Bedford town centre around ten to fifteen minutes away by car. The setting is quiet and residential, popular with families and with professionals working across Bedford and Milton Keynes.
The A6 runs past the village for a quick drive into Bedford or south towards Luton. Bedford railway station is around fifteen minutes by car, with Thameslink and East Midlands services reaching London St Pancras in as little as forty minutes. Milton Keynes is about half an hour by road and Luton Airport roughly twenty-five minutes via the A6. Regular buses connect Wixams with Bedford town centre. The house has driveway parking for up to four cars, so arriving as a group with several vehicles is straightforward.
Bedford’s river embankment is the town’s centrepiece, with gardens, rowing clubs and riverside pubs along the Great Ouse. For days out, Woburn Safari Park and Woburn Abbey are around twenty minutes away, Center Parcs Woburn Forest is similar, and Whipsnade Zoo about half an hour. Milton Keynes offers major shopping, theatre and indoor skiing. Closer to home there are walking routes around Wixams’ own lakes, and the Forest of Marston Vale country park is a short drive west.
